The United States of America defence secretary, Pete Hegseth has declared the U.S is ready and prepared for war with China.
Hegseth made this declaration on Wednesday morning on Fox & Friends as tension continues to rise between the two nations over trade disputes.
Recall that the Chinese Foreign Ministry had declared its firm stance against what they believed to be Washington’s aggressive trade policies, stating that they were ready to fight ‘any kind of war (with the U.S) till the end.’
Hegseth’s comment comes amidst increasing tension between Washington and Beijing over tariff hike.
According to the defence secretary, U.S is prepared for war, as those who long for peace must first prepare for war.
“Well, we’re prepared. Those who long for peace must prepare for war. If we want to deter war with the Chinese or others, we have to be strong, and that president understands peace comes through strength.”
“We need the defense spending, the capabilities, the weapons and the posture in the Indo-Pacific, which is something we’re very much focused on,” he said.
Teastrend reported that the Chinese Foreign Ministry had previously said, “If war is what the US wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war, or any other type of war, we’re ready to fight till the end.”
They further accused the U.S of targeting China, using the fentanyl issue as a flimsy excuse to justify trade restrictions and their countermeasures to defend China’s rights and interests are fully legitimate.
Meanwhile, Canada in retaliation against U.S trade measures has imposed a 25% tariff on a range of U.S. imports.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned of the economic impact the tariff will have on Americans, saying, “Tariffs against Canada will put your jobs at risk, potentially shutting down American auto assembly plants and other manufacturing facilities.
“They will raise costs for you, including food at the grocery store and gas at the pump,” he said.
