The federal government of Nigeria (FG) has assured corps members of its intention to pay the outstanding newly approved N77,000 monthly allowance.
The minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande disclosed this on Monday, March 24th, 2025 during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Recall that in September 2024, the FG had announced an increment in corps members’ allowance from N33,000 to N77,000.
However, months after the announcement the FG has failed to implement the payment structure despite calls from affected corps members and assurances from authorities.
A delay which has led to concerns and backlash from affected corps members with the recent trending video of a corps member sharing her plight. There are also concerns from corps members who have completed their service year and those about to pass out about their fate.
The minister, however has assured that all serving corps members as well as those who were in the scheme at the time of the announcement will receive their payment respectively.
Olawande stated that, “You saw the new DG saying that you will get it, and they’re asking him a question: ‘What about those that are going out now? Are they going to receive it [backlog]?’ He said, ‘We have your details.”
Olawande further said that the payment might not be immediate but the government is committed to ensuring that all affected corps members receive their entitled backlog as they have their details.
The minister, however did not give a timeline for payment despite the assurance.
