Celebrities are citizens like you, Mr. Macaroni

Mr. Macaroni
Popular Nigerian comedian, Adebowale Adedayo known as Mr. Macaroni has made it clear that celebrities are citizens just like everyone else.
Mr. Macaroni took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to tackle an image shared by @TENIBEGILOJU202 calling out Nigerians to unfollow all celebrities keeping quiet to the happenings in Nigerians, further stating that the only celebrity worthy of respect is Mr. Macaroni.
Mr. Macaroni however stated that he would never endorse a post such as this as celebrities are citizens just like everyone.
“I will never endorse a post like this!!! Please do not ask celebrities to make sacrifices the people are themselves are not ready to make,” he said.
According to him not all celebrities wish to speak on social issues and it is quite unfair manipulating them into speaking about certain topics because even when they speak, they still get attacked.
While citing an example of this, Mr. Macaroni said when Nigerians see another Nigerian being brutalized by the police, they act nonchalant to the plight of the victims. Some walk away while others record and post instead of joining hands to stop it in that very moment.
“Nigerians will see their fellow Nigerian being brutalized by the police…instead of coming together to stop it that very moment, some will pass by, some others will watch, some others will record. The same Nigerians will come online to attack celebrities for not speaking against police brutality.”
Mr. Macaroni further asked that if majority of Nigerians are quiet why then should celebrities be blamed for staying quiet. “If majority of the people are quiet, why should we blame celebrities?”
He concluded that when Nigerians truly and deeply want change they will come together, become their own celebrities, take the lead and take charge. They will not wait on any celebrity.
“When Nigerians truly want change, the people will not wait for any celebrity. The people will become their own celebrities and they will lead and take charge!”
In another post made on his X handle, Mr. Macaroni reinstated his commitment in fighting against bad governance as that is what he has always stood against way before stardom. He however pleaded that other celebrities should not be held to the same standard, especially when the people are not accountable.
“I would never stop speaking against the oppression of the people and against bad governance. That is what I have always stood against even before fame. But please do not hold other celebrities to the same standard especially when the people themselves are not accountable.”
