Burna Boy warns Artists about ‘Naija social media fans’

Popular Nigerian musician Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu known as Burna Boy, has warned Nigerian artists not to get ahead of themselves whenever they emerge as top streamed artists on any Nigerian streaming platform.

According to him Nigerians won’t fill up any stadium for them despite their social media fandom.

Burna Boy who took to his Instagram handle to pen down some advice to his colleagues, stated that artists shouldn’t let themselves be deceived by the Nigerian media fans.

He further emphasized that these fans wouldn’t sell out any stadium for them.

In another post on his Instagram handle, the ‘Twice as Tall’ crooner gave an estimate of the amount Nigerian artists would earn if their songs were streamed only by Nigerians, in comparison to that of others in the UK or Europe.

“Dear artists, Don’t let twitter polls and “Naija social media fans” deceive you. They won’t fill up any stadium for you in any part of the world.

1000000 Nigerian streams = $300/$400
1000000 Uk streams = £3000/£4000
1000000 US streams =
$3000/$4000
1000000 euro streams = €3000/€4000,” he said.

Burna Boy reinstated that there is nothing to celebrate as a top streaming artists on any Nigerian streaming platform. He concluded by advising his colleagues to always aim higher.

Your song being number 1 on any streaming platform in Nigeria is not something to celebrate. Aim higher or do other businesses on the side. I type with love. #NoSignOfWeakness”
