Omoni Oboli spills the secret behind her 20-year marriage

Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Omoni Oboli, has opened up about the secret to her over two-decade-long marriage to her husband, Nnamdi Oboli.

In a recent interview on the With Chude podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning actress shared insights into how their commitment to one key decision (eliminating divorce as an option) has sustained their relationship since they tied the knot.

“Staying married for over two decades. First things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision. From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option even before we got married,” Oboli revealed.

She emphasized that this mindset helped them navigate the many challenges of marriage, including what she described as a particularly rocky first year together.

Oboli also highlighted the power of forgiveness in maintaining a healthy and lasting union.

“There is almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive,” she said. “We all have to realise that we’re all sinners.”

The actress shared that her love story was far from traditional. Nnamdi proposed just two weeks after they met, and they were married within four months. Despite her youth and uncertainty at the time, she was drawn to the way he loved her.

While reflecting on marriage, the mother of three offered advice to young couples, urging them to approach it with intentionality and responsibility.

“Marriage is a responsibility. You don’t go into a marriage expecting it to happen to you. You are the relationship. It’s between two people; you have to make it work,” she said.
